Self-introduction:

I am a retired Canadian of British birth presently teaching Oral English at Long Dong University, Qingyang City, Gansu. I have a varied work history, from the shop floor to Senior Management position (Director). The majority of this is in the Transportation Industry. I started as a driver (1981), training Supervisor, Manager and then Director of Loss Prevention/Security and Training of the then largest LTL/TL Transportation system in Canada. I was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces from 1971-1976 (Qualified Para-Medic). I had various positions until 1981 (Bank Accountant, Corrections, Sales,).

I have many years of teaching at the corporate level and I have spent the last five years teaching in China. My past history has taught me to be flexible, adaptable, sincere, persistent and firm when necessary. I have found many routes that allow me to bring the best out those who wish to learn.

While at Hohai University, Ningbo Institute of Technology, Zhejiang University, Longdong University and Jiangcheng College. China University of Geosciences I have been very involved with the student body. I was the teacher/advisor to the English Radio Broadcast Group; I have judged Talent competitions, Oral English and CCTV competitions, marketing and business displays. In 2012 I was a leader for the School of Foreign Language’s during the Annual Sports Day. I attend weekly English Corners and I created on my spare time a second corner for 3rd year English Majors so they could continue their advancement with the English language. I have done several ppt presentations on Canada to the student bodies. .

Before retiring I was involved in volunteering with the young. I was a Cub and Scout Master, Training Officer with the Army Cadets (1521 RCAC). I also worked with Big Brother/Big Sisters and Grimsby Skating Club (Grimsby, Ontario).

For five years I have taught English Major Students since I find them more motivated and eager to use the English language. Over the last 5 years I have developed my own lesson plan in confidence building which covers many topics and I have found that the students have responded well
