To whom it may concern,
I am a native Canadian English speaker, with rich experience in international education. Teaching english is something that I am enthusiastic about and I enjoy the challenge of helping student improve their english. Having taught english in China for more than 3 years, during that time I have become familiar with the common needs of Chinese english learners and the challenges that they face.
The time I have spent improving my ability in Chinese has also given me an increased insight in to the challenges my students face when learning english, and has improved my approach to teaching. It has become my personal goal to achieve fluency in Mandarin, to do this I took the step of studying Mandarin for one year a Sichuan University in order to jump start my progress. This process has caused me to reflect on the best means and methods of language learning. And has reinforced my desire to taylor my teaching methods to the needs of my students, rather than the other way around.
My teaching experience has made me capable of providing professional and enthusiastic instruction to students of all levels and ages. While teaching I have had the opportunity to teach english to: young english learners at the kindergarten level in the classroom setting; private lessons for kids ages 8 to 16; business english both in a group class and one-to-one; daily english for adults one-to-one; university classes on oral english; and IELTS and TOEFL test preparation one-to-one. Because of my rich and varied teaching experience, I feel confident that I can be a successful teacher in any teaching situation that I might be placed in.
Thank you for taking the time to read my cover letter. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
Nathan Bertsch
