I am writing to apply for an ESL Teaching position at your school. My experience as an Associate Professor, my academic background, and my passion for enriching students’ lives through bilingualism make me an ideal candidate.
I hold a Master of Arts Degree in Professional Communication, a Minor in French Language Studies, as well several ESL training certificates. Studying at the graduate level required exceptional ability in English as well as an in-depth understanding of educational pedagogy. On a personal note, as a Canadian Anglophone, who has studied French for 3 decades, I have a deep understanding of the structural intricacies of my native tongue.
After a decade teaching at various university, graduate, and private institutions; I am adept at creating and leading innovative and engaging lessons for students of all ages and skill levels. My courses are tailored around student levels and guide learners through a path of key objectives and clear learning outcomes in order to be able to measure student progress at the end of the course. I have stepped away from a more traditional teaching method by integrating this 3 pronged approach:
Interactive learning: Students learn by doing. My style focuses on student led/peer learning opportunities. I create a framework in which all content is presented, practiced, reinforced, and tested using a Layered Learning Model whereby all sensory learning styles are stimulated allowing all students to engage in the way they learn best (Multiple Intelligences Theory).
Writing, and Listening. Basic grammatical/structural lessons are linked to interesting thematic units in order for students to be able to practice knowledge in real world scenarios. From news reports, video clips, listening materials, to video diaries, group presentations, and role-plays; I select modern materials that help guide the learners through all parts of language.
These techniques have been implemented in all courses listed in the attached resume. I would be pleased to provide more details and real life examples of my methodology in the form of a Teaching Statement, upon request.
Sincerely,
