PROJECTS
Five wheat varieties were grown alone (pure stand) and with their binary mixtures (by mixing seed of wheat lines in equal proportions) in order to estimate Mechanical Heterosis for seed and seedling traits. Analysis of variance revealed non-significant differences among wheat varieties, among binary mixtures for emergence percentage, emergence rate index, fresh shoot length, fresh root length, fresh root and shoot weight, dry root and shoot weight. Mean statistic for wheat varieties for their seed and seedling traits indicated that wheat varietyLYP-73 and SA-42 are best. Overall performance of binary
mixtures involving variety Lyp-73 was better for all traits Mechanical Heterosis for all the seed and seedling traits over mid parentremained maximum in binary mixtures BAR-LYP and BAR-LWS. Mechanical Heterosis over better parent was reported in the mixtures of varieties BAR-83 and LYP-73
Keywords: Wheat (Triticum aestivum L) Mechanical Heterosis, over mid parent, binary mixtures.
