TEACHING EXPERIENCE
New Idea Education, Huizhou: English Teacher
August 2010 – Present
• Teaching classes of up to 10 children, aged from 3-18 and grouped by skill level as well as age. Classes are 50 minutes long. At school we teach without assistance so it gives me the ability to fully control the classroom to create a positive all English teaching environment.
• I have full control over the teaching methodology and a substantial influence over the content taught.
• I do advanced lesson planning and give ample preparation before every class for each of my 18 classes, every week. I also provide feedback and suggestions for every student after every class.
• Weekly training meetings are held to help improve my ability to teach and expand my repertoire of teaching techniques, games, activities etc.
TEFL 110 course, Edinburgh/Online: EFL Teacher
June 2010 – September 2010
• 30 Hour Weekday Course
• This involved a very intense 3 days of teacher training. It covered in brief all areas of teaching to provide a solid baseline for future work. Including: Games and warmers, lesson planning, classroom management and an improved understanding of teaching methodology.
• 30 Hour Online Grammar Course
• This course taught me everything I need about teaching the English language. Grammatical rules, verbs, nouns, adjectives and the rest. Essential to teaching students as it provided a real refresher and grasp on English Grammar.
• 50 Hour Online Course
• This covered everything from the previous two courses but in a more specific manner to full prepare me for future teaching experiences. It built on methodology and lesson planning, classroom management, teaching business English, one to one lessons, young learners, grammar, understanding and motivating students, vocabulary and functions and also reading writing listening and speaking skills improvement.
Perth High School, Perth: Student Tutor
March 2008 – May 2008
• Working 1 to 1 with children aged 11 to 18
• Provide mentoring for students. To tutor and provide assistance in one to one situations where students were struggling or answer any questions they had about computing
• To monitor students to ensure they understood and progressed in the assignments given to them. Providing feedback when required.
Dundee University, Dundee: Student Tutor
September 2005 – March 2008
• A stipulation of the computing department at my university meant assisting in the years below coursework assignments. Whenever students had trouble with coursework the year above were asked to assist in teaching the student the appropriate skills to complete the project. Re-enforcing knowledge, demonstrating coding practice and error correction were all aspect of this.
